House Project
Introductions

This project installs a comprehensive fire safety early warning system for house in Germany. There are approximately 200 square meters including basement, ground floor, second floor, and attic/storage space etc.

Referring to the house’s functional layout and operational requirements and product types and technical characteristics, the project is comprehensively designed and planned the fire detection and alarm system with EN14604 &EN50291 fire safety regulation for this house. The system uses 11pcs alarms (smoke alarms, heat alarms, CO alarms) and controllers. It enables early fire warnings, lower false alarms, timely evacuation, easy maintenance and emergency response in the initial fire or carbon monoxide leak stage and simultaneously gives the information to the house owner.

😔 Challenges

  • High CO security risks: There is high airtightness of residential buildings and excellent warm insulation, making the accumulation of CO dangerous.
  • Kitchens close to living room: There is lots of smoke and grease in kitchens, and traditional smoke alarms easily make false alarms.
  • Homeowners are sensitive to appearance and maintenance: They can’t accept battery replacements yearly or damage to the interior decoration.
  • Regulatory compliance: The system must meet German local fire safety inspection and insurance requirements.

☺️ Solutions

  • Differentiated detection technology Combination together: Heat alarms are prioritized for installation in visible fire areas where smoke may easily cause false alarms.
Smoke and CO alarms combination are used to avoid the limitations of a single detection technology solving all problems.
  • 10 years Battery Life inside: 10 years Battery Life in all alarms can reduce maintenance costs and users have a good experience.
  • WIFI Connectivity and Remote Monitoring TUYA: The real-time alarm information upload notifications by WIFI to TUYA app, and TUYA can monitor alarms health status and remote debug alarms, when you are out of home.

How Many Alarms

Explore how different areas are equipped with the appropriate types and number of alarms, ensuring effective fire safety across various environments.

Smoke Alarms

Following EN 54 standard (applicable to Europe): The coverage area and detector spacing for each detector are standardized.
3 Bedrooms + 1 Living room + Stairwell/Corridor + Attic storage areas

  • 3pcs smoke detectors for 3 bedrooms
  • 1pcs smoke detectors for living room
  • 2pcs smoke detectors for Stairwell/Corridor
  • 1pcs smoke detectors for attic storage areas
This project used total 7 pcs smoke detectors, the details are as follows:
  • 6 pcs SM17W WiFi Photoelectric Smoke Alarm
  • 1 pcs SM03 Mini Smoke Alarm

Heat Alarms

1 Kitchen room + 1 Laundry Room

The project used total 2 pcs heat alarms, the details are as follows:
  • 2 pcs Wireless Interlinked heat alarms HD11R
  • Heat alarms are installed in visible fire areas where smoke may easily cause false alarms.
  • Normally 1pcs heat alarms per room.
CO

CO Alarms

Boiler rooms + Gas Equipment Rooms, etc.

The project used total 2 pcs heat alarms, the details are as follows:
  • 2 pcs CO11W WIFI Smart Carbon monoxide Alarm
  • CO alarms are mainly monitored in boiler rooms and gas equipment rooms.
  • 1pcs CO detector per equipment room, with horizontal distribution across multiple floors.

Choose The Right Alarms For House

Based on the house’s spatial type and risk characteristics, the project will achieve fire (smoke/temperature rise) detection in all critical areas within the house and CO detection and early warning in areas where carbon monoxide leaks may occur (such as basement boiler rooms and gas equipment areas), so the project used three type alarms:

Smoke Alarms

Alarms must be highly sensitive to slow-smoldering fires (e.g., overheated wiring or smoldering furniture) that produce dense smoke and carbon monoxide before flames appear, typically providing 10–15 minutes of early warning for effective fire suppression in residential and public buildings.

The system should cover activity areas within the house, such as bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, stairwells and attic storage areas. Due to there are so much furniture and flammable materials in the house, the project used SM17W WiFi Photoelectric Smoke Alarm and SM03 Mini Smoke Alarm.

CO Alarms

Carbon monoxide, the “silent killer,” is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and non-irritating toxic gas that easily accumulates in areas with incomplete combustion and poor ventilation. Reliable CO detectors must be installed in basement boiler rooms and areas containing gas-burning equipment, also help protect the residents from CO poisoning.

To get real-time messages from heat alarms on the app, we used CO11W WIFI Smart Carbon monoxide Alarm in this project.

Heat Alarms

Heat alarms detect increases in ambient temperature or the rate of temperature rise. They trigger an alarm immediately when the rate of temperature increase exceeds a preset value, making them suitable for scenarios where temperatures rise rapidly during a fire. It is suitable for locations with minimal smoke and rapid temperature increases, such as kitchen, laundry room, basement and steam, dust, or smoke producing room.

To reduce the number of separate devices and engineering wires numbers in this project, using Wireless Interlinked heat detector HD12R.

Project Summary

The Germany house alarm system operated stably with no false alarms or complaints for 2 years and passed monthly routine security checking.

When you start a new public project such as townhouses, apartment buildings, and vacation rental projects, you must consider system false alarm controlling, choose a factory-type supplier that understands both the product and installation and customization capabilities.
