Introductions

This project installs a comprehensive fire safety early warning system for industrial plants in Turkish. There are 10 large production lines, equipment maintenance areas, storage areas, office and auxiliary areas, and electrical equipment rooms in the factory, total 5000 square meters. There are multiple fire risks (high-temperature friction from machinery, abnormal electrical wiring, accumulation of dust/flammable materials, etc.), and the CO risk (especially in spaces with dense machinery).

Referring to the building’s functional layout and operational requirements and product types and technical characteristics, the project is comprehensively designed and planned the fire detection and alarm system with EN14604 & EN50291 fire safety regulations for this factory. The system uses 56pcs alarms (smoke alarms, heat alarms, CO alarms) and controllers. It enables early fire warnings, lower false alarms, timely evacuation, easy maintenance and emergency response in the initial fire or carbon monoxide leak stage and simultaneously gives the information to factory management and employees.

😔 Challenges

  • Dust and low false alarms: There are large amounts of dust and volatile gases in the production and storage areas of the factory, which can potentially trigger smoke alarms.
  • Multiple Heat Sources & Uneven Temperature: There are high local temperatures around many machines operating at high speeds, and heat alarms may make false alarms or missed alarms.
  • CO in many ways:Injection molding, poor ventilation, transformer room, machining area and chemical reactions may be producing the CO. We need to analyze the data and reduce false alarms.
  • Factory Production no stop:The system’s installation must not affect normal production. Wiring and alarms installation minimize production quantity.

☺️ Solutions

  • Differentiated detection technology Combination together: Different types of detectors are used in different areas: Photoelectric smoke detectors are used in cartons/packaging materials areas.
    Heat alarms are prioritized for installation in visible fire areas where smoke may easily cause false alarms.
    Smoke and CO alarms combination are used to avoid the limitations of a single detection technology.
  • False Alarm Resistance Design Logic: The engineers optimize MCU multi-parameter alarm signal and algorithm to filter environmental noise and photo sensor sensitivity to reduce false alarm.
  • Double Verification of Installation and Commissioning: Each Alarm installing location on ceilings or high walls and avoiding near ventilation openings, air conditioning vents, should have the cross-verification for installation height, airflow impact, and measured response time.
  • WIFI Connectivity and Remote Monitoring TUYA: The real-time alarm information upload notifications by WIFI to TUYA app, and TUYA can monitor alarms health status and remote debug alarms.

Smoke Alarms

Following EN 54 standard (applicable to Europe) and safety rules: install one smoke alarm per 80 square meters, and separate alarms in corridors, intersections, and warehouse entrances.

The project used total 20 pcs heat alarms, the details are as follows:
  • 20pcs Wireless Interlinked heat alarms HD11R.
  • Heat alarms are installed in visible fire areas where smoke may easily cause false alarms.
  • Normally 4pcs heat alarms per room.

CO Alarms

Transformer rooms, machining areas, + Backup power room + Areas containing gas-burning equipment

The project used total 3 pcs heat alarms, the details are as follows:

Choose The Right Alarms For Factory


Based on the factory’s spatial type and risk characteristics, the project will achieve fire (smoke/temperature rise) detection in all critical areas within the factory and CO detection and early warning in areas where carbon monoxide leaks may occur (such as Transformer room and machining rooms), so the project used three type alarms:

Smoke Alarms

Photoelectric smoke alarms use an infrared LED (IRED) and a photosensitive LED in a chamber; smoke scatters the IRED light, generating a signal that triggers the alarm. They are highly sensitive to slow-smoldering fires that produce dense smoke and carbon monoxide, providing 10–15 minutes of early warning for residential and public buildings.

The system should cover densely populated factory areas, such as cartons/packaging materials zones, high-density equipment areas, corridors and rest areas, and office/support areas. The project used the CS17R Wireless Interconnected Smoke Alarms and SM11 Ultra-slim and Ultra-light Standalone Smoke Alarm system.

Heat Alarms

Heat alarms detect rapid temperature rises or high ambient temperatures, triggering an immediate alarm. They are suitable for areas with minimal smoke and fast heat increases, such as heat treatment areas, wave soldering and reflow soldering zones, injection molding rooms, electrical equipment rooms, and areas with steam, dust, or smoke.

To reduce device and wiring requirements, the project used the Wireless Interlinked Heat Detector HD11R.

CO Alarms

Carbon monoxide, the “silent killer,” is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and non-irritating toxic gas that easily accumulates in areas with incomplete combustion and poor ventilation. Reliable CO detectors must be installed in transformer room, machining area, backup power room and areas containing gas-burning equipment, also help protect the residents from CO poisoning.

To reduce the number of separate devices and wires numbers in this project, using Interlinked Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Combo Detector CS13R.

Project Summary

The Turkish factory alarm system operated stably with no false alarms or complaints for 3 years and passed monthly routine security checking. Our system not only detected early hazard signals and assessed multi-risk factors but also remote monitoring and maintenance convenience.
